just moving into a new build. All window handles have locks with keys apart from two. One of them is my little boys room.

Is it just a matter of swapping his handle for one of the lockable handles downstairs.

    How do they come out?

Should be able to swap them.

Most handles have a square spindle, bit there are other variations flat bar, but removal is the same.
Prise off plastic cap, you will find a screw, when you turn handle to open window, you see the second screw, just need to remove both of the & handle will slide off, the spindle will is usually fixed to the handle. (known as Espag Window Handles):)

Before you do this check that the locks aren't keyed alike.

  4. Is it a fire exit? - you might want to find another solution before locking it up.

Could alway get a Emergency escape hammer to break the glass, my friend use to have one stuck to the inside of the window reveal in her kid's bedroom, due to having lock fitted.
