HELP! I'M GONNA FREEZE! Need advice on this crazy boiler. I have header tank, open system, smc comet pump, 7 radiators (all one level) ,boiler in attic. It lockouts at high temperatures, will only work at min. temp. Is the thermostat making it lockout? Can blocked pipes make it lockout? Thanks
So if it locks out at high temperatures you will be getting a flashing sequence on the lights dependant upon the fault. These are detailed in your instalation and service manual. From experiance if the boiler gets hot then cuts out it either the Oveheat sensor or the flow sensor worst case is the PCB. Your best bet is to get an Gas Safe in to fault find and repair
Thanks Dave, I wish I could afford a plumber. When it does lockout, red light flashes about 3 times a second. It says on boiler, wire fault (continuous red) and lockout ( 1 flash per second). 2 radiators are not heating up, could it be blocked pipes? pump is on 2nd speed setting, when I put it on 3rd speed setting it just circulates around header tank. Should I flush the system and fit new pump?
your pump is pumping over then (into the tank) - suspect an air lock or blockage in the pipework so there is no sufficient circulation through the boiler and it overheats. Could also be wrong layout of your pipework. This boiler does not have a flow switch. It has overheat stat and temperature sensor (NTC). It is overheat stat locking it out. Those have been known for faulty PCBs as well but if it is going ok on low setting then I would suspect circulation. Regarding your bathroom radiator - yes some systems are installed with bathroom radiator before the CH zone valve so it comes on with DHW and also acts as by pass to the system. That is normal.
Thanks for that info. mate. I've flushed system twice, pump sounds/feels like its working (on level 2). Flushing made it worse , NO heat getting to rads at all now. Boiler still overheating? LOCKOUT! Don't know how to fix airlock, Just going to bite the bullet and get plumber. Thanks everyone for advice.
got plumber in, he says its fan and flue seel making it lockout, says £500 to repair, so just getting new boiler put in.
Having read the other suggestions - it sounds like the PCB. These boilers were notorious for having poorly soldered boards - i've now cured three Pottertons by reflowing solder over the components legs (not the chips).
I agree with the last post, sounds like it could be the circuit board. Try the following for replacement controls https://ignite-heating-spares.myshopify.com/search?q=suprima could save you lot of money!!!!
Too late, got new boiler put in. A good one this time, Worcester bosch. These plumbers scraping perfectly good 13 year old boilers, very UNGREEN !!!!!!!!! :-( Thanks for help though.
