Mitre Saw's

  1. Hi
I've got a LS1018L Makita sliding mitre saw.
I've never been happy with it even after just getting it back from Makita after some new parts and a service and setup.

Has anyone got any reviews on Bosch saws for cutting cornice and pelmet. I'm after something smaller than what I already have.
    Cheers

Bosch GCM 8 SJL, only a 8" sliding mitre saw, BUT it will cut 70mm x 312mm at 90 degrees, excellent tool, fitted with the Freud LP40M 019 64 tooth 216mm blade, makes it superb for cutting mouldings, only minus point it's only a single bevel, but I can live with that.

Looked at Makita mitre saws & their quailty has gone downhill compared to my old Makita mitre saw, so went for the Bosch.

Hunt around you can find the Bosch GCM 8 SJL about £280 or less, might save a bit more going through quidco or similar.

If a double bevel is essential, then look at the Bosch GCM 10SD, a 10" sliding mitre, cost about £420, doesn't offer much if any increase in cutting capicity other than 85mm x 305mm at 90 degrees.

I have the LS1013. Have it about 10 years now. Great saw and accurate.
    Have Makita really gone backwards?

The LS1216L looks a fantastic saw.

Bosch are articulating arms now which I don't like. Only the Kapex after that.

Looked at the LS1018L ,but I will never cut 100x 300mm at 90 degrees, & it's £400, the Bosch can do all I need, & £100 or so cheaper.
The new LS1013 isn't a patch on the old LS1013 which I use to have, the display one in the shop was rough, probably through use, castings were rough in places, it didn't inspire me with confidence, like old Makita tools.
But, the LS1013 has now been discontinued now I think.

  5. Thanks, this is what I was looking at!
Have you used an extractor on it?

    No.

Just a rather elderly drum vacuum, collects a good amount, but a proper dust extractor or more powerful vacuum would be better.
