the stud will be spaced at 600 centres with track top and bottom screwed with jack point screws and plasterboard screwed on with 30mm screws.
stud comes in various sizes, 50-70,100mm. openings usually have 2x1 timber sleveed with the tin to provide for door fixing etc.with door heads/lintel having track cut and bent up each reveal.

  8. Thank you.

Chust had confirmation from Strongvox that it ain't structural, so I'll be getting my Stanley knife oot at the weekend...

  11. Well, set to the job today.

Marked out with uncanny precision, to within a gnat's crotchet.

    Radiator offski. Sockets dittoski.

Got me Stanley, and cut through the p'board with ease. I expected it to be harder.

    Removed p'board panel.

    To find...

Sigh - back there tomorrow to kick the blocks oot. SDC16374 (2).jpg SDC16381 (2).jpg

Hmmm. Methinks an exploratory look behind a socket might have revealed the same before commencement.

    Now, is that supporting?

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really

  13. Won't be supporting nuffink when I've removed it...

  14. (Only kidding - need to get a builder in... )

Does this type of thing need BCO approval? Or should a builder be able to sort everything?

As your builder can't tell the difference between metal studs and blockwork...

  16. Cheeky bar steward...

  17. What is the procedure for this kind of work?

Is a structural engineer always required? Can a builder who's a member of a particular scheme undertake this without BCO having to be consulted?

Or is it always contact BCO, get struct eng, get builder...?

    Thanks.

The thing that looks like blue cable - is that the radiator feed?

The new opening looks like to be 2030mm wide, so a lintel of min 2330mm (2.4m/8ft) is required. Cut out the block work so you can get full block out, as per diagram.

Is there a supporting wall onto p of this one in the bedroom?

If it's nonload bearing then you are fine but as I said the builder who told you it was nonload bearing also thought it was metal stud so I wouldn't trust him again.
