To try to seal and cover over mould areas on bedroom walls, I intend to lightly sand over the affected areas, treat those areas with Zinsser solvent based Stain Blocker. Then apply Zinsser BIN Primer Sealer. My worry is, as these walls are already painted with emulsion, can I paint over the treated areas with emulsion or do I have to treat the primer sealer? If this is necessary then what must I buy? I know the source of damp is outside the flat but as it is on the 3rd floor I cannot get to it. Am I doing the right thing? All advice welcome.
Ideally you need to treat the cause, but regarding paint, I'd use a '2 part' treatment such as Glixtone, which uses a chemical to 'kill' the mould followed by an anti- mould paint. Good luck.
Zinsser products not required, wash affected walls with weak bleach solution and rinse off, when dry apply 2 coats of Dulux Mouldsheild emulsion paint. As CGN advised the cause needs to be sorted. Ventilation is also a good friend to provide air flow. Can you post a picture of the wall as this would help to judge how bad it is?
Many thanks for your reply. I cannot get to the outside walls so will chat up the landlord. Will suggest your remedy to my granddaughter and see if she agrees. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for your suggestion. Am afraid that as it is a very large area, the total cost of Mouldshield would be too high. Am afraid that I cannot post a picture. Thanks again, Alexg
Might find it works out inexpensive in the longer term. Cover rate 17 Sq metres per litre x 5 litre tub = 85 Sq metres coverage at a cost of around £70, Zinsser products you mention circa £50 + emulsion paint.
Hi, thanks for text. I have been to Bowers, paint merchants and apparently with Zinsser BIN Bulls Eye 123 they say that this acts as a Bond Coat and as they will tint it to any colour on their chart at no extra cost. It means that we don't need to buy a second emulsion coat. Anyway, as this is all new to me, I hope that this will prove to be the answer. Thanks again. Alexg
