Well, wifie had the task of putting together a fund-raisng quiz for the Sea Cadet unit, and my task was the music round... Roughly 15-second clips of songs with some nautical connection - either in the title or lyrics. Anyways, here it is for you . Sorry about the appalling quality, but the only way I could think of to quickly put MP3s on to a PooTube vid was to record it with my camera... Anyways, for each of the 10 tracks, I'd like to know (a) the artist and (b) the song title. 20 marks in total to be had - no cheating now (unless you must. And you have to declare it... )
Well DA, judging by the age of these tracks, hope the quiz was aimed at the parents and not the kids I got a few.... but hope you raised a tidy amount on the night, all for a good cause indeed
Huh - you know of any watery tracks wot are more modern?! And, yep, it was almost exclusively an adult audience (for an earlier version we did for the cadets, we had themes from children's programmes - you should have heard the shout when Peppa Pig started up... ) So, you got a few, eh? C'mon - let's see 'em (Or perhaps hold off a bit until others have a go )
C'mon, peeps - let's have some answers . Track number, name of artist and title of song. Start filling in the blanks...
Here's my few, all "kosher" as well; 1. Frank Sinatra. Somewhere beyond the sea 2. Erasure. Ship of fools 4.Madness. Last boat to Cairo 7.OMD. Sailing on the seven seas 8. THE Beatles. Octopus's Garden 9. Hues Corporation. Rock the boat Cant think of any related songs right now but artists, yeah that's easier; Frank Ocean Ocean Colour Scene Lower Than Atlantis Billy Ocean We are the Ocean Noah and the Whale Catfish and the Bottlemen The Wave Pictures
Oooh, Malkie and Dave - very impressed. That's a lot more than I knew - and I put the darned thing together... Slight correction - No. 1 Beyond the Sea is by Bobby Darin. So that chust leaves my fav No. 3 - which apparently no-one on the night got either . Can you identify the singer if not the song? Irish. Legendary. He's the Man. And No. 10. Wifie came up with that one - Moorcheba, The Sea.
Here are a few more pop quiz questions. What was the title of Cliff Richards 2nd eurovision song? What position did the same said song finish up in the 1973 contest final? Who failed to qualify for the final for the UK in 1976 with the original version of "Do you believe in love at first sight" ?
Yes, 2pts there Phil along with a well done for not falling into my cunning trap by remembering Cliffs other eurovision song! I guess you are the winner of my quiz as well.
Part 2, is Polly Brown, but of cheating going on, (Google) Next question, how many groups can you name that don't have any Vowels in their name.??????
"Congratulations" Phil, it's a clean sweep for you on my music quiz 3/3 ! Polly is often mentioned for her uncannily vocal resemblance to American superstar Dionne Warwick who recorded the failed song a few years later and had a big hit stateside with it. Are XTC the only group without a vowel in their name?
Good question Phil, I can think of 2 (at the moment) MGMT Lynyrd Skynyrd I'm sure there are more though !
