Need help regarding seating wall plate on lintel/block work

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to seat a 4x2 timber wall plate on top of this lot. Its going to be lay on the 4" side so it sticks up 2". As you can see in the picture, above the patio opening, the hd lintel sticks above the block work whereas it does not on the rest of it. Do I simple use a thinner strip of wood to pack up the wall plate?

It's a self build so learning as I go. I did think of mortar but you've put my mind at rest. Thanks
