I have a price of sold oak I'd like to use between my butler sink and cooker only a small area about 800mm wide I was looking at it and wondered should I fit the oak so the grain runs to the back rather than with the wall. So you would see the end grain at the front. I was thinking the long grain is less likely to split near the sink and cooker.
    What do you all think?

Would it overhang the sink or butt up against it, if overhanging then it definitely would be better that way stopping water being drawn down the grain from the sink.

Its going to butt up to the sink with silicone filling in the gap where the edge of the sink curves down.
Its an old house so in some places is more than 615 in others less. Got the units as straight as I could with the sink on brick piers but the walls are way out.
