    Hello,
Well the OAK worktop is installed and hole cut ready to drop in the OVER mount sink.
So should I oil all the worktop fist and then silicon down the sink?
OR silicon down the sink and then oil the worktop.
I guess what I am asking is will silicon stick to an oiled worktop?
    Many thanks Ian

I hope you've oiled the underneath of the worktop before fixing it down. ;);)

  6. This exact Q has been asked recently - worth a search for the thread?

Anyways, silicone might well adhere to dried oil, but won't if it's still wet.

But, you really should oil the top fully and repeatedly before fitting the sink.

It might be that silicone won't be used to seal the sink anyway - good chance there's a foam or mastic strip supplied with the sinktop for this use, and it should be totally watertight when fitted.

Definitely - oil the whole top and the exposed cut-out end grain in particular.

Oil the top first. Liberally on the cut edges. Then oil it again. Now again.
Then fit the sink. As it is an over mount it should be easy enough to take it in and out for oiling. Once fully oiled and fully dry you can silicone it in place.

Makes best sense to me, many thanks.
Am just doing a test with piece of oiled offcut oak silicon'd to old SS sink, seems to have stuck well but will test in morning.

although I am not too unhappy with the interim solution:

    Again many thanks imk.
