Just thought I'd show what I have in my garage. It looks like 2.5 twin and earth. Not live.
    How old, any idea?

What there is in a house I am involved with. If anyone wants the bits when they are eventually removed let me know!! cable from top of centre unit to lighting circuit is lead covered.

Oh yes,a bit of vaseline on the switch lever and keep the contacts clean and tight and they'd run forever.

Yes but I've no doubt it would work, even after all those years, how much of this modern junk will still be serviceable in 50 or 60 years? :)

Ah, there lies the problem. In the mad world where a house earns more than its occupants in a year who cares about the TCO(Total Cost of Ownership) of the infrastructure. An attitude that can prevail is "Take the cheapest quote with the cheapest gear, take the profit and let the next poor sucker sort it out".
