Opening a door that's locked shut

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any ideas that will save calling out a locksmith!

My front door has locked shut and it appears to be the actual mechanism that's broken. It is a UPVC door with a euro lock and it has two hooks - one going up the way and one down the way that are in the locked position so taking the hinge off does not appear to be an option. We have snapped the barrel and taken it out and tried a different(definitely working) one and that did not work either.

At a loss for what to try next without actually damaging the door - does anyone have any suggestions?

Is there glass in the door?

I'm presuming there is. Remove beading and take glass out. Then pull door upwards also try adjusting the door at the hinges.

Had one of these the other day

Yes, there is a glass panel in the top half

Thank you for the suggestion - the hooks in the door go different ways so one hooks up the way and the other down, would this not prevent you from being able to move the door like that?

the top hook normally catches when the glass drops. That's how I opened mine. Worth a try. They work together so if one is stuck ie top it won't release.

Adjust the hinges also normally with an Allen key may have a cover on.

With the lock out, try to simulate the lock lever with an allen key or similar. Try to find the parts that the lock lever would turn.(If you use a 6.3mm or 1/4" allen key, you can use a bit-holder/screwdriver to hold it and give the leverage required)

Also, what happens with a lock in there? Does it spin and spin, or does it hit but not move anything?

Thanks for the response - we have tried allen keys etc. and could feel the part the lever would turn but couldn't move it so we tried it with the lock from the back door and it would turn to the point that would usually unlock it but it won't go any futher and seems to be completely jammed, you can feel it move the handle slightly.

Ok. One more try. You know you have to turn the handle up before locking it, yes? So stick your back door lock back in there(make sure the lever moves in the correct aperture in the door), pull the handle up as hard as you ever can without breaking it, and while you are holding it up real tight, try to unlock it.

Tried that already too :( to the point of stretching out the hole a little. It's looking more and more like it's going to end up with taking the door apart/a new door!

Or a friendly burglar? Maybe that chef bloke who stole Paul Youngs guitars.
