    Hi

We have a large kitchen and I beleive it is subject to Part P.

We are having an extension built onto the kitchen to provide a dining room. There will be a clear line between the kitchen and dining room.

Will the electrics in new new Dining room extension be subject to Part P?

    Many thanks

Kitchen is a room with a food preparation area, it would be hard to define between a kitchen and dinning room, there is nothing like the bathroom where it says 3 meters away you can still fit a socket, it needs a door even if a door which can be folded out of the way, it would need something to divide it into two rooms, in England it is no longer a problem, kitchen is no longer a special location, it is however in Wales.

As to if anyone is worried as to if you have registered work or not is something else, it depends on your councils building control officer, I have not seen any court cases for not registering work, yes where the work is sub standard, yes where the person said he was a scheme member and was not, but for simply not registering work not seen a court case, as to not registering work which only requires registering in Wales it is very unlikely anyone is policing it, the only thing is means is a house buyer has some thing to use to try and get price down.

ALL electrical work is subject to Building regulations Part P

The Satutory instrument P1 merely says this:

Your question, I think, means is this elecrical work notifiable?

In your case the elecrical work is not notifiable, unless new circuit(s) are being provided.
The rules differ depending on where in the UK you live. As of 6th April 2013, the electrical works requiring notification to the local authority in England are defined in section 12(6A) of the Building Regulations, as follows.

It's new work, not a replacement or small alteration, your building control inspector will need to see the part 'P' completion certificate.

Extensions to, and alterations of, existing circuits are not notifiable (unless they are in a "special location").

Correct Bazza, but this is an extension that building control will be inspecting.
