Bit like asking BMW or Mercedes, personal choice. Just for the record mine are Records, had them years with no issues
I've got an himoor and had it 35 years and its still bending, I can't say about rothies cos I've never had one,
I have read the reviews for them both. The Rothenberger is £15 dearer, according to one reviewer there are no angle markings on the former... Also the stock photo shows 3 formers?? The Hilmor, however does have the markings.
My bender was from Wellsbourne Market for £25. Some of the cheaper benders have sticky labels. I suppose Tom wouldn't need any angle guides as he could bend pipes in his sleep!
I'm not a plumber, but have done miles of pipe runs for various gases & liquids. I've only ever used Hilmors or Rigids. I certainly never came across Rothenberger during my working life.
I bought a SF one about 10 years ago. I think it was about 40 quid. I don't do a vast amount of pipe bending but for the last 10 year it's done me ok. Recently it's started to fold up 22mm pipe so I'll bin it soon, but it's done me pretty well to be fair.
Ten years is not long, Ive my records nearly 40 years. I was once told that only a rich man can afford to buy cheap carpets.
My Hilmor's doing ok. Better than me I think, I take the bending m/c these days if I know I'm bending 22mm - getting old..!
Iv'e just purchased a new set of Hilmor pipe benders, they look very wll made and do have the markings. My old set were unbranded cheap (from market), I was getting rippling in 22mm bends. From the amount I use them, they will last a life time.
Just bought hilmor after going through two cheapie ones in five yrs.seems worth the wee bit extra to get quality.
The latest hilmor bender look rather posh now in black & green, compared to my old yellow one, plus they have added a foot on it, which allows you to mount it in a vice or workmate now.
Using the Hilmor Irwin, just trying to get used to the markings. The old bender the pipe had to be aligned on the inside/outside edge of pipe. This ones seems to be in the center so takes a bit longer to work out. Unless I am using it wrong?
