It's a nice bit of kit Kiab, but needs to be used at the correct time. It's not really for flattening, especially on a reskim and really is for final trowelling.
Go for the standard, brilliant with multi finish & skimming. Used plaziflex nearly 7 years now, wouldn't go back to a metal trowel. Any nicks in the plastic blades can be rubbed out with fine sandpaper, also remove plastic blade & you have a stainless steel mini trowel blade, & you can polish without water, but I still use a drop from a hand sprayer.
Even on the Refina online shop they are out of stock. https://www.refina.co.uk/acatalog/12--Replacement-Plastic-Trowel-Blade.html#SID=101
Usually buy my stuff from ebay. Seen this, its the same seller. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REFINA-12...783205?hash=item3d3062c065:g:S9MAAOSwzJ5XVpa~ Expecting plaster to come on Wednesday so will have a go then. I know you've mentioned this trowel a number of times and now I've finally bought it
I thought about buying one a year ago after reading about them on the plasterers forum, I never got round to it but after reading this I will place an order, got a big ceiling coming up in a few months, and at my age, them ceilings aint getting any easier.
I'm 53, & I skimmed two artex ceilings here (job for youngsters) using plastic trowel, quicker, & no aching arms or back which I normally got when using a heavier metal trowel.
61 with an arthritic neck, I'm fine with walls though. Had to laugh a couple of years back when me 30ish year old nephew said "I don't know how many more years I can do this plastering malarkey", little wimp. Fortunately, it's only part of what I do, the rest is usually easier.
Ceiling in the WC turned out pretty well. Just sanded over and minor filling. Will try and get some pictures uploaded. Expecting the plasiflex to be delivered tommorw
Received the plaziflex today. Ordered the leather case at the same time. The small trowel fits into the plastic body. Was quite difficult getting in and needed some force.
WC ceiling is now finished. Went over with sander, then did minor filling. One coat of No-nonsense bare plaster paint before fine sanding and another coat. Used Dulux Bathroom paint for the finished ceiling Wall was sanded over and any filling made. It is now ready to accpet paint hoping to do this the same time as ceiling.
Can't get hold of the plasterer until next week. So am attempting to do the ceiling tommorw. Equipment all set up, bough a paddle mixer attachment for the drill. Staging set up using scaffold boards, plan on skimming half the ceiling before the getting round to other half. Bedroom ceiling prepped, scraped off all the pointy bits of artex. A built in wardrobe was here originally, fitted replacement plasterboard. Joint was made good using plaster mesh tape and joint filler. Tried PVA but tape kept coming off.
Artex make sure you prime it with pva diluted 4 to 1 & allow to dry, then I like apply a second coat & let go tacky before plastering.
I'm using the uni-finish plaster so its already got PVA added. Think there is a little more worktime as well which is helpful.
Uni finish, don't like it, I'm old school. I still give artex one coat of pva primer, before skimming.
