    Hi All,

I have a room that is about to be plastered, two walls with new plasterboard, and two that were skimmed a few years ago but have enough rough patches/damage etc to justify doing it again.

On the old walls, there is still old skim that is almost glassy smooth, can anyone tell me that should be done to these walls to prepare them for skimming?
    Score the old skim? PVA?

All paint has been scraped off already (came off very easily)

    Cheers!

I just use artex seal from B&Q. You can thin around 20% to 30% and roll on 2 coats. Let it dry over night and just skim up with no other sealing required. I use artex sealer on all surfaces and never had a problem. Some use blue grit or similar which is a Polymer with sand in. I don't like the grit though. You can thin some Pva and coat up, then leave over night and coat again in morning, then skim but I find the sealing properties of Pva not great.
