Actually looks like wet plasterboard running down to a countertop.

I guess the kettle leaked and ruined the wall ?

1st one looks like plasterboard, second one looks like fibreboard, cos you can see fibres.

Either way, if it is or isn't, one board, as long as you take sensible precautions, ain't going to kill you, it's prolonged exposure over time that gets you.

Is it a pipe box under a boiler?
If so it's more than likely made from modern materials.

It's one fibre that gets embedded that kills you.

Correct! and don't think that you only have asbestos install before 2000 it was installed after that as well

Morning guys, my post was meant to suggest that if adequate precautions are taken, and it is only one board, then the risk is much more minimal than if one was ripping down a load of the stuff, maybe I didn't phrase it correctly

wrong. exposure just once can kill you.

There's an ambient level of fibre all around us. We've all had some fibres in us. Prolonged, regular bursts of high concentrations will get you. One fibre isn't going to do you.

Since the industrial revolution man has had many things in the atmosphere that can lead to death.

As far as I understand it, you could rip out asbestos all your life and not have a problem. Or you could work on one broken bit and ultimately it could kill you. The crucial thing is if one of those nasty barbed fibres lodges in your lung or not. You may be lucky, many are. You may not, many haven't been. For me, discretion is the better part where asbestos is concerned.
