Poor plastering job - what action can I take?

I've just had our hallwall plastered and the finish is pretty poor. It's mainly the edges that are bad (I've attached some pictures to show what I mean). The main walls feel ok, but I guess I won't know how good they are until there is a coat of paint on.

Unfortunately, I've already paid the plasterer as I hadn't realised quite how bad the job was. The question is now what to do. Should I get him to come back and put it right (at the moment he's not answering my calls so I suspect he knows that it's a cowboy job), or just accept it as a bad job and try to put it right myself (easyfill). My real concern is whether the walls will look poor when painted.

No chance in hell getting plasterer (cowboy) back, & your eyesight must be pretty bad not to notice such a carp job!

Should be able to sort it with easifill & some rubbing down.
When you come to paint it don't forget the mist coat, that will also show up any imperfections.:)

Whoever done that ain't no plasterer.
No beading used, no wonder the finish is so carp.
I think you're going to have to put this one down as bad luck and move on.
I hope you didn't pay the going rate for that mess?

Yup - paid the going rate. Used him before and it was a top job hence why I went back to him. This time it's very poor! He was working with his mate, can only think that his mate did the work while he sat and drank tea.

I don't think the plasterer chap was drinking tea, by the look of that job he was abusing his mate!

Shocking job, but as above, looks fixable with a bit of sanding and filling.

May be easier to fit coving to hide where the wall and ceiling joint is

Aww come on Longs, plasterers don't use beading on internal corners. ;);)

    Proper plasterers do.:D

    Are they all internal?
I honestly thought the last one looks like an external?

Agree, last one does look external. And no bead in sight.

The second pic look external and also looks to have a bead.

There is some scrim tape visible which shows it was used, but if shouldn't be visible. :(:(

Still doesn't excuses what by and large is a totally unacceptable job.

  12. I don't do much plastering, I am not very good at it.

But I would do better than that. Certainly wouldn't dare give a bill at the end of it.

Leave your plasterer a message saying you want some more done? You might get a response. When he arrives you can show him what you need doing !

I would TXT him, & say you either come back & sort it, or I'll go small claims court, for money back + extra for putting it right by a proper plasterer.

As has been said, repair it. Lining paper then paint. + Coving.

    I know a good coverer.

Appalling work. Unfortunately, judging by those pics, the rest of it is likely to look terrible when painted. I would ring him, tell him that now it's drying out it looks awful...he may have a conscience and come back, but also do a similar post on the plasterers forum and threaten to name and shame him if he's dismissive. Someone on there may know him and they don't take too kindly to shoddy work.

It's me who's failed you Joe...I shall now resign as your plastering tutor...and go back to skimming stones :(

Haha, at least I can transfer the blame.

On a serious note, that is absolutely shocking 'work' (dare I even call it that). Even sanding it and filling it would most likely not make it acceptable. Get him back, if he will even do so, he's probably a cowboy never to be seen again.
