I'm decorating a period property. There was a water leak in a bathroom where water soaked into the skirting and walls. The following day there were these deposits on the wall. I'm not sure if it is some sort of mould or salt crystals. It's been several weeks now, and the walls appear dry. I scraped and cleaned off the crystals and then painted with zinnser Bin paint. The following day the salty deposits were back Is it efforescence ? I'm not sure! Maybe someone has better insight and knowedge What ways are there to overcome this problem? I have attached a pic of the wall Thanks
Stone walls can take weeks to throughly dry out, & they need to breath, so no good slapping on zinnser. You need to brush away the salt with stiff brush & treat the wall with a salt neutraliser like Everbuild Salt Away or similar. https://www.transtools.co.uk/fixing...verbuild-salt-away-sprayable-solution-5-litre
