Im selling my house, and my worktops are a little dull looking, someone suggested spraying them with back to black to give them a shine, im not so sure about this stuff on food surfaces. Any one ever done anything like this? or any one got any ideas?

That's got to be a really bad idea. There's only one solution - change the worktops. And don't use gloss ones next time. They may look good for the first week, but they don't last.

I definately wouldnt use back to black to liven up my worktops. It would make a right pigs ear of them as they are solid oak. boom boom

Window cleaning stuff might help, I do use something after I have fitted them but I'm not giving that trade secret away

for matt tops use baby oil, its harmless and doesnt dry out or wash off immediately. For gloss tops, theres not much you can do besides not getting them again!

  6. Fuster has the right idea, change them.

However its unlikley that a prospective purchaser would notice the state of the worktops, if the place is clean and sorted you will be fine.

Thanks for all suggestion, though some were kinda silly, perhaps I will just chance my luck and leave them as they are, since we have alreadt had an offer for our house.

DO NOT USE ANY BABY OIL OR ANY GREASY PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS WILL BREAK UP SEALER, MIGHT LEAVE STAINS, SOAK TO THE STONE AND NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO RESTORE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you can help - my worktops are made from baby skin. What should I use to make them shiny?

I find plates slide off shiny worktops too easily.

    A sticky residue avoids this.

    Safety first in the kitchen!

Baby Oil is the way to go. Gives a lasting shine and is fairly inert. I always finish of any solid surface tops with it.

I cover my worktops with dried up Cheerios, gives great protection as they are possibly the hardest thing to remove.

I find weetabix also works a treat!
Any non toxic granite cleaner should do the job. They're all quite similar really.
