I am in the process of installing an electrically heated towel radiator in my kitchen. I have available a fused spur or a switched RCD socket. I would prefer to used the RCD as it could be used for other appliances. Is this acceptable?
The requirement is to provide RCD protection for the circuit. This means that the circuit needs to be protected at the origin, not just part of the circuit which enters the bath/shower room.
Use the fused spur if the wiring is already there. if it's a new circuit and the cable is buried less than 50mm below the surface it should be rcd protected at source but otherwise if there's no socket involved, or if the supply is surface run rcd protection is not necessary.
Thank you all for your replies. I have RCD protection at source so will use fused spur. Thanks again.
