So I am looking for a metal tube or rod that will be able to be bent to shape by hand and then retain its shape while supporting a small weight at approx 1 metre. Its more a craft project than anything, have looked at electrical copper wire and 2.5mm aluminium wire but neither are really strong enough, any ideas? Thanks
You need to give a bit more detail on what your trying to achieve, min / max size of tube and how much bending are you expecting Post title mentions 'tube' but then you've tried working with wire ? Probably loads of options available, just need some clarification
Take you aluminium wire(or get some galvanised wire) and twist 5 lengths together(rope fashion). Bend it shape it any way you want it!
If you go in to most 'sheds', you'll find a rack of metal strips, round bar, profiles etc. I'd have thought that 3mm diameter mild steel bar would do the job for you - strong but easy to bend into shape. Don't try and bend 'tube' too far 'cos it'll buckle - make sure it's solid. Or, go for a walk in the country and good chance you'll find some loose fence wire... Anyhoo, time to tell us what your project is
Get some 15mm copper pipe maybe? Is that to thick? Can buy bends and fixings for it if needed. Spray paint it to
