I have an old 70s grey Pegler terrier wheelhead cap on one of my rads. Thru use the side of the cap has a split in it. So I am looking to replace the cap with a new cap. It currently functions OK but does not look too good. I am having trouble lifting the cap off its spindle, after removing the top screw, since it is VERY stiff. How best can I prize this off in order to replace it. Also will a current pegler terrier wheelhead cap be OK as a replacement.

In the past I have used a junior hacksaw to cut the cap in half, cut just outside the recess edge of the screw hole.
Once you get so far down you might be able to prise the cap off.

Here we go ,a inside view of a cap.

Could try putting the screw back in but undone a couple of turns. Pull on the cap while gently tapping the head of the screw downwards.
