Hi guys, Looking at removing wall lights and leaving just ceiling light in front room. I gather i have to isolate cables,to avoid future homeowners putting nail through it etc, is this as straight forward as removing the short live feed across the com in the switch and replacing with a 2 gang switch rather than the current 3 Many thanks
You need to isolate the neutral as well as the live, you will need to find the cable, probably under the floorboards above then you can cut it off and make safe in a junction box.
Thanks for the quick reply, Can the neutral be isolated in the switch, by disconnected where it is connected directly to the other neutral?
Yes if there is a neutral in the switch back-box that will be ok. I didn't mention that because there's usually only lives in there but yours is looped in at switch which is handy for you!
Is it definitely the nuetral at the switch and not the "nuetral" being used as switched live Should have a bit of sleeving over it to indicate switched live (either red or brown depending on age of wiring)
Well did not see any reason to have to create a synopsis on making a run of cable dead completely. Pretty self explanatory i'd say I was also debating the EU thread of should we stay or should we go so that may have had something to do with the short sharp simple answer...
