I was looking to do a mortar mix 3:1:1 (scratch), 4:1:1 (top) with sand, cement and lime. No where seems to stock lime nearby me. Any idea for an alternate mix, or substiture for lime?
Hydrated Lime seems to be disappearing, I know several places around here no longer stock it. Everbody have different ideas for the perfect render mix, I usually do 1st coat (scratch coat) 3:1 sharp sand with waterproofer, 2nd coat (floating coat) 4:1 sharp sand with waterproofer
Yes. Used that here, when I rendered retaining wall, hasn't fallen off yet, last place I used it, render was still there 10 years later. One thing, don't over dose & over mix render when you use it. Read Technical Data link below for use. http://www.everbuild.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=133
I see Larfarge technical now quote 4:1 for 1st coat (scratch coat) & 5 or 6:1 for 2nd coat (floating coat) as the second coat should be thinner & weaker, all with sharp sand.
