Hi , The existing freestanding oven which we are replacing is hard wired in to a 32 amp cooker outlet , can a separate hob and in built double oven be connected to the existing cooker outlet or do I need 2 outlets ? I will be having the work carried out by a qualified Spark , but just wanted to know if this is possible first . Thanks in advance !
Info needed: You would need the wattage of both appliances & the size of the cable feeding the outlet at the moment so we can calculate. The problem you get in this situation is a hob will quite likely need a 32amp fuse & the oven a 13amp fuse. A lot of 4 ring hobs are 1.8kw per ring = 30amp. A 2kw single oven is around 8.3amp a 6mm cable will take 41amps. If you have a 6mm cable you will be just ok. Personally, if its easy i would run a new cable for one or the other, so if you have a problem with one you don't loose both..
A 32A circuit will be adequate for most hob+oven applications (unless the hob is a monster). When looking at the current demand for uch devices, we use a technique called diversity, which allows the theoretical maximum current demand to be discounted (due to thermistatic controls being in play). So, in the above example: a 30amp theoretical hob is actually scored at only 17amps. But let us know the power ratings for both of the appliances, and can advise more accurately.
So the circuit is fine to run both. Both will need hardwiring to the circuit. Use one of these to enable that. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/AA45DCOP.html
