Replacing ineffective bathroom extractor fan - advise please

    I would suggest to:
    - drill the hole in the middle of a brick, not breaking across a mortar joint
    - as loads travel downwards in a triangle shape, leave sufficient gap up and across so that the load on the roof edge, travelling down and out per the slope of the roof, will "miss" the cut out. In other words, not too close to the edge of the wall.
