Ridge Tiles - is this poor workmanship?

    Hi guys,

Before I have an argument with my roofer would someone with more knowledge than me mind letting me know whether the finish of the ridge tiles is poor workmanship please?

I had a roofer in to do the main roof (done a good job) and someone else finished off the ridge tiles. The ridge tiles look very messy to me and I'm not sure whether I need to complain.

    Thanks!

    Very poor.

  4. I honestly would not accept that poor standard, Ryst.

A DIYer could have done better.

Whoever did this was incompetent. You've gorn to the expense of a new roof covering, and that looks an eye-sore.

(Why did you have a different person for the ridge tiles?)

Long story mate. Roofer did the work but we had to do something with the dormer to the rear (which was the builders responsibility) which meant taking up some of the ridge tiles which they replaced. Replacing the ridge tiles was part of the builder's quote.

  6. It doesn't take particular 'roofing' skills to lay them straight and neat!

I'd have thought a brick-layer would have the necessary touch to do this properly.

So who the hell did they actually use - their sparky...?

(With apologies to sparkies... )

I think he did quite a good job considering that they were at 90 degrees to the ground.;)o_O;)
No a pretty crepe job its looks to me. They don't look wide enough!

A close up shows that the roofer has used mechanical fixings as well as mortar to secure the ridge tiles. The last one doesn't look like a ridge tile, instead a dollop of mortar?

Also I cannot see any lead lashings, neither stepped to the chimney side, nor a front apron either?

Some of the slates look suspect too

  15. You mean one of these slates did that rubbish job?
