yep 600 centres are perfect thats what mines are

you say 115mm !! i had trouble when i installed my shiplap it felt dry and was around 115mm but unfortunatly the next year with a realy hot summer [2005]the wood had shrunk so much that in a few places gaps appeared [tounge came out the groove :)]

cut off a foot get it indoors dry it out for a week and when it reaches 111mm you know its dry

i am of course talking txg shiplap coverage

oooo and i am glad i screwed it as nailing would have made it nearly impossible to remove and reposition the planks ;)

My shiplap is coming straight from the treatment yard

How should I store it and for how long before fitting it

Could I use black dry wall screws to fix it

or what other screws would you reccommend

    thx

mine came from the wood yard where it was stored undercover for 3 weeks after being sent away for treatment

but the clues where there on delivery the snow and ice on top gave me a clue that it hadnt been stored undercover

any way i air dried the timber outside fo a couple of days untill it was no longer dripping

i air dryed the wood throut the house placing in progressivly warmer then aired rooms through the house untill it felt dry at the 2 weeks mark it was up at 113mm compared with the 111mm of the untreated sample i had asked for

so i though wedge it tight in and that will leave 2mm expansion --------------

----------"wrong" during the summer some boards parted

so i would say air dry for at least a month or take the risk

and i used 4x40 gold screws avoiding the last 2" and overtightening to avoid splits

Not quite the same job,but I've used black dry-lining screws when building fences & they've been great. I live near the sea & the salt in the air just rots any other screw apart from stainless, but they've been fine....Not only that, but they're cheap as well. ;)

Im going to go with 38 mm black drywall screws

Got the timber today and its been drying nicely in the sun all day
Going to leave it for a few days

    One thing

some of the shiplap is cupped
should I "pull it in" by tightning the screws

    Thx

Turn it in the sun to try to make it straighten again. Are you eventually staining it ?

Might be a good idea to whack a stain on it before fitting.(staining gets to the parts that will show when it shrinks)

(I know you said treated, but that doesn't mean you won't be staining it :))

    Mr. HandyAndy - really
