Para, ask yourself, did the government think there was a chance of losing the referendum? Of course they didn't, but still should have planned for such an event. It's highly remiss of them not to have planned for all contingencies Sorry I just remembered,,, oh yes, there was a plan. A plan by Georgie Porgie to tax us all off the face of the planet. He did mention this. Yep, tax rises, interest rises, pensions to be hit, services to be cut even further, mass redundancies, etc, etc. Now that we've voted to leave the ailing monster, he's probably putting the final touches to a budget that won't get passed by government. He'll try to hit us hard, but there's one thing in his way,,, it's called "democracy"
All this side chat about punctuation. Here's one for ya all. Can you think of a sentence which contains five "and" 's in it one after the other ( and and and and and ) that still makes perfect sense ? I know one that does. Replies please.
Ahh this would be the petition which is being signed by 30,000 people in the Vatican City (population about 4000) . Being signed by people in North Korea, who can't get on the internet. Yep I've heard of this petition,,,, The one that's been hijacked by internet "bots" (a script which automatically adds names) Yep this petition is gonna carry a lot of weight. Edit, this would also be the petition that was started a month before the damn referendum (for a laugh)
No bubble burst here, JJ. Would I have accepted the result had it gone Remain's way? Yup - of course. But Farage - for one - would not. He'd be bleating for a second one just like Sturgeon is doing for Scotland. But, whatever you try and claim about how 'democratic' this vote was, it was not so. How could it be when the issues that many Leavers were voting for were not even on the table? And the others - 'take control', sovereignty' etc - complete bogus? And it is patently obvious that many who did vote Leave actually wanted nothing of the sort. 'Democracy' in action? Hah! And here's the real beaut - are you sitting down? The proposer of that '2nd Referendum, William Healey, was a 'Leave' supporter who set up the petition before the actual vote 'cos he thought they were sure to lose and wanted a second go! And third. And fourth... Isn't that fab? Just poetic? I think so Anyhoo, one one side we had '£350M', 'Turkey joining', Breaking point', 'save the NHS', 'control our borders', and even 'bent cucumbers'. On the other side we had experts say 'our economy will be instantly affected', our 'credit rating damaged', we'll 'risk the break up of the Union', it'll risk 'instability of peace in Ireland', 'immigration won't be reduced', etc etc etc. Question - a one word answer will do - who lied and who is being proven to be right? Democracy? You have got to be kidding. (When you answer that Q, JJ, bear in mind that there are few alert folk on this thread who can see through any attempt at wilful dishonesty and body-swerving.)
Handy, there is a sentence which does make perfect sense with 5 and's one after the other. I'll leave yo to think about it for a while.
Why would it have been done a month before the referendum DA? Who was the proposer and what was his views on the referendum? I think they were "Leave". So it was done in jest.
Really? That's the only reason you could think of? Not that Leave were expected to lose, so he wanted to guarantee further goes? Actually, I have just read that he claims he's a true democrat and did it for a valid reason - such an important vote should require a minimum turnout and a significant majority. In which case, fair do's to him.
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/26/brexit-crisis-end-years-cameron-political-vacuum This is a good article. If you voted Leave you should be asking plenty more questions of your Leaders. A shambles. The poor man will end up poor and all your wishlist wants from a Brexit ain't gonna happen. Pull up the draw bridge etc If you voted Leave you should be pi$$ed off that you've been sold a lie and damaged something very fragile. You would moan over the price of a bag of cement or a litre of diesel, well you'll have plenty more prices to moan about very soon. Cheers.
Amen, BMC2000. Of course, many Leavers - the lot on here, for example - won't ask any questions of their leaders 'cos they are pretending that this is exactly what they wanted all along (JJ is a partial exception - I feel he is been genuinely dismayed at what's now happening). Many other Leave voters were just too stupid to tell the difference betwixt patent truth and fiction, coupled with being too stubborn to change their 'minds' in any case - 'cos they think that having 'conviction in your beliefs' is the same as having 'a strongly held rational opinion'. It ain't. It sooo ain't. And then there's the genuinely nasty amongst them, those driven by resentment, hatred bigotry and suspicion. There are, sadly, lots of them around, no question. And, of course, there are those who did consider it all as carefully as they could - and legitimately arrived at their (incorrect) decision. The rare souls who on TV news programs confessed they didn't want this result and were now dismayed by what's happening and would vote differently if given the chance - the truly contrite - are the only ones left with genuine dignity.
Agreed. The mother of all c8ckups. Only the British could have achieved it. If someone had written this as a novel it would either be rejected as too far fetched or become an overnight bestseller. I can't decide which, indeed I am rapidly loosing the faculty to make sense of anything. Oh I wasn't going to say anything else was I ? I think I might need to lock my keyboard away. I think my wife might want to lock me away with it. Good night.
Very good Handy. Didn't read that properly. The one I was thinking of was when our local Marks And Spencers had a new sign put up The manager looked at it and said to the sign fitter.,,,,,,, "The spaces between Marks and and, and and and Spencer are wrong."
Yup - I think my wife also hoped that the referendum would end my recent fascination with the keyboard... Only the British indeed. We have now officially lost the right to call Americans stupid.
Thing is , what do we do now? Have a civil war, or all go down the pub and get absolutely p*****d together?
