  1. Thank you, Davmac, for trying to restore a sense of balance :).

I'm not sure, tho', I'm trying too hard to 'convert' anyone on here as I am absolutely certain that I won't.

What I am doing is countering the thoughtless ramblings of a group on here.

"Has anyone ever walked passed these guys and seen the hate in their eyes?"

Hate? Possibly. Or perhaps it's fear because they know that they are despised by large tracts of the popular press and many of the British people.

Most likely it's both hate and fear? To suffer unimaginably in your own country, to risk life to get to freedom, and to then find out that you are also despised where you are trying to get safety and shelter?

No-one is saying that to allow refugees into your country is an easy and straight-forward thing to do. Especially at a time of huge financial restraint. But, man, it comes down to basic civility.

  2. It's on the actual YouTube page where the video comes from.

  3. This is what is now happening between the EU and Turkey.

    [IMG]Dane-geld

    [IMG] A.D. 980-1016

IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
[IMG]To call upon a neighbour and to say: –
"We invaded you last night – we are quite prepared to fight,
[IMG] Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
[IMG]And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
[IMG]And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
[IMG]To puff and look important and to say: –
"Though we know we should defeat you,
we have not the time to meet you.
[IMG]We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

    And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
[IMG] But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
[IMG] You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
    [IMG] For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
[IMG]You will find it better policy to say: --

    "We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
    [IMG] No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
[IMG] And the nation that plays it is lost!"

That Dane-Geld poem, just about sums up the EU, if you little but realised it.

I wouldn't pay any credence to DA. Last week I posted that the nhs was on its knees which he dismissed with his usual puerile comments. A few days later labour issued the same statement.
Now we have the doctors strike.

And why do we have a Junior doctors' strike?
A clue may be gleaned here;-

Some Tories would like to get rid the NHS. The enforced contract on the junior doctor's is just the thin edge of the wedge.

Staying in the EU will probably speed up the demise of the NHS.
The trade deal with America will open the gates for private companies to rip it apart and the cherry on the top for this and successive governments....?
They can hold their hands up and say,
"you lot voted to stay in the EU, it's not our fault".

I've no idea who that guy is, but if he's up for a free movement agreement beteween the UK and Orzrtaylear I'd urge our antipodean cousins to make him Prime Minister without delay.

Owen is right on the money with what he says.
We will still be in NATO which has a lot more muscle where deterrent and security are concerned. Whereas the EU would still be debating the right thing to do with shells falling all around them.
Everyone on the planet wishes the world was at peace, but it ain't going to happen, never.
The argument that a united Europe shines a light of morality to the world is complete bull, its a smoke screen to draw in evermore support from lefty thinking fools and will eventually be its downfall.

Is NATO still even a credible thing?

So the NATO that stopped the likely illegal Blair admin war on Iraq?

I'm not getting into the rights or wrongs of the 2nd Gulf war. The point is it was against NATO legislation yet NATO could not do a thing to stop it.

    Power my erse.

True in a sense, but then again because it was against NATO legislation, that's why it was an illegal war, that will in time be proved to be, but only when Blair is deemed to old to stand trial, as seem the norm in this country, ask Chilcot.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If NATO had any power or jurisdiction there would have been no need for Chilcot. It's as simple as that.

When are we getting the Chilcot whitewas... verdict anyway?

    Next month? ...Next year? ...Never?

    I'm guessing never.

Its more a case of a non member attacking a NATO member.

AFAIK there are no middle eastern members of NATO, only customers and trading partners.
