How do I turn off this type of stop tap and are any tools necessary? It's in the road side of my boundary and serves two properties. Any help would be most welcome.

Get the water board out, certainly is an unusual one that. Or does it just turn by hand?

    Hello Dave
    Thank you for your reply.
Tried turning it off by hand and with a spanner on the black nut, no joy.
Look like the water board (Severn Trent).

Reckon that needs a special tool. Never seen it before.

    Thank you George.

Why on earth would Severn Trent fit this kind of stopcock that no one else has seen.

is it not a gate valve, turning 1/2 a turn using either one of the tools on the left of this pic, the pins sitting in the cut outs on the valve.
