Going back to a job on Mon after a good xmas break. They are wanting a ceiling dropped too 2.4m from its high near enough 4.5m. Was just gonna put some wall plates on put the joists in and a few noggins. they arent wanting to use the void above the ceiling for anything so was just curious what timbers you suggest? 4x2? Purpose of dropping the ceiling is to retain heat and the high ceiling is completely shot and would take a fair bit of sorting. Cheers Ant
What size room - span? I presume you'll also be adding insulation above the false ceiling? I can see a potential problem with that void above - condensation forming through it not being ventilated. Can some vent grills be fitted along the bottom (ie: just above the new ceiling's insulation level) and further ones at the top? What could these vent in to - is there a loft or eaves void available?
foil backed Pb and lots of insulation for the new ceiling and open up the top of the old ceiling, assuming there's a well vented roof void above
Room is 3.8mx2.4, There was an old loft hatch into the large loft. planning on opening that out to vent the void into the loft.
