What is the typical current rating of 2.5mm 3 core SWA some underground, some clipped in air.

Also, do the regs stipulate that both ends of the armour are earthed?

You only need earth one end if you are using a seperate conductor for the 'real' earth. But sometimes just as easy to do both.

Clipped direct to a surface in "'free air'", 2.5 will carry a max of 28amp single phase and 25amp 3phase.

Underground you should allow the same.

Cables exceeding 50mm may be bonded together at one point in their run.

Yea CPW, read 523-05-01, refers to SINGLE CORE ARMOURS.

We installed 4 x 400mm Single Core Alumnium Armours for a gen set, this reg applied to us then. But more multicores, it doesnt apply.

    Table 4E4A. Ref method 1 31A, ref method 11 33A.

The regs stipulate that you must have an earth SYSTEM Whats the point in earthing just one end. Where is the fault to earth going to?

    earth!

Earth the supply end only if you are using a seperate core to earth the socket / garage at the end.

Only one end needs earthing, most usually the supply end. Thats the end of it.
