    Hi all

Sometimes the symphon sticks and water continuously runs into the bowl.

I've checked no grit is present! Just sticks like friction. Push it back down and it will be fine for awhile.

Haven't got to much knowledge on these types of syphons or wether I could just replace. As it's the type you twist out. It's in a communal area

    I'll try adding photo

Check your inlet valve Tore. Looks like the float could be just catching on the back of the cistern. If so, slacken off and rotate a tad :)

It's nowhere near the back of the cistern!

The float on the inlet valve is... The siphon isn't!!

It looks like a pneumatic flush / dump valve to me

Usually have a large rubber washer which seals against fitting screwed to base of cistern

Washer can go brittle over the years or just a bit gungy which will affect how it seals, leading to the above problem - trickle of water into toilet bowl

New washers are available, there may well be a make stamped onto the valve, if not, measure and get online to match up

Yep agree, from photo float on inlet does look close to cistern wall

Andy ...... For heavens sake .......

The red bit ain't the problem - that doesn't move

It's the float (black) that looks close to cistern wall, as mentioned by CGN

The red bit is just the cap
It doesn't move so if touching the cistern, then no problem

It houses the float arm and inlet valve

The bit that looks like it 'may' be touching the cistern is the float and is black

The BLACK bit is the float

The RED bit is the cap (don't know technical name for it)

What bit are you on about geez and what colour ...... For Heavens Sake :)

Not really sure what ur point is Andy ?

We are talking about the float possibly being close / touching cistern wall which could lead to cistern overfilling and hence trickle of water into toilet bowl

    The float is BLACK

You keep mentioning the RED bit

    I've called it a cap.
Whatever it's called, it won't cause a problem if touching cistern, however, the float (black) would be a problem

    'What's the cap for'

Well, I dunno really in technical terms.........

It's where the water comes out from to fill cistern

It houses the mechanics of the valve and float arm

Anything else ,,,,,, er i really don't know but, it is red, won't cause a problem if too close to cistern and I do know that the float is BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK (and not red)

    Hope that helps :)

But why have a cap. It's not to stop water falling onto what's underneath. It's
