Hey, I have a few years experience with a quality general builder and specialist pool builder. Over this time I have done a lot of tiling and have got to a good standard. I'm going to set up on my own but would like to back this up with a some courses. I take pride in the quality of any work I do.

Just want to know if anyone knows of a good course from seasoned professionals. Are the P.T.S ones any good? Cheers

Hi, Ive just finished a 4 week tiling course with PTS Warrington. Cant praise it enough, fantastic in all aspects with all the business start up lumped in with it. Now confident with setting up on my own which i will be doing shortly.. Go for it!

Saddam, depends where you are prepared to travel, I did a week course in south shields, brilliant course as the guy gives you all the pointers of laying wall and floor tiles on all materials, ceramic, travetine etc etc, ok you dont do lots of practical but sounds like you dont need it, just gives you which adhesives, grout etc to use with certain material of tile, I hadnt touched tiling before I did the course and now ive done lots for people with good results, I think the majority of these 4,5,6 week courses you learn the essentials in a week and they make money out of you by letting you put tiles up on the same wall for 3 weeks when you dont really need the last 2 weeks, anyway hope this helps as its not about the length of the course but the quality.jam

i went on one of these courses a few years ago,if you don't have a clue about tiling there not much kop,but if you already have a good bit of knowledge they can be quite helpful.

they only show you how to tile onto perfect surfaces ie plasterboard, but dont show you how to deal with a wall or floor that is all over the place that is where you will learn how to tile ,anyone can put up a tile but not everyone can put up a tile correctly,i am not knocking you for wanting to get on your own just giving my 2 pence worth.

Well the 4 week course is well worth going for!! The centre comprised of 30 plus rooms which you could change to every day if you wanted to, no room was the same having toilets basins and sinks in different positions.Put it this way i was in around 6 or 7 different rooms and never found a level bath!! All walls were out !! Windows were not square and floors were not flat. so they were very critical on the setting out process. you learnt more complex designs in the 3rd and 4th weeks that you wouldnt in a mere 1 or 2 weeks also you got the knowledge of tanking, natural stone, adhesive and grout lectures direct from ardex reps, demonstrations from montolit, undertile heating and a business start up pack. What more do you need????

the first thing you will need is the confidence to go into someone's house and carry out the work to a high standard dont forget you are only as good as your last job,but to make decent money you will need to be quick.

the second thing you will need is a good knowledge of plumbing because they go hand in hand.

as i have already said i am not knocking you for doing the course just saying it wont teach you everything in a month impossible,it may give you an idea but wont cover everything.it took me 5 years to get where i am today doing a good job making good money.
