    Hi guys,

Need some expert opinion here pls.

We got a bathroom tiler to tile our bathroom and toilets and for about 60 Sqm of bathroom and toilets the tile shop suggested 10 x 20kg bags would be enough.

We have 30cm x 60cm tiles and are large and weighty. However the tiler said this much adhesive wasn't enough and even cleaning off old adhesive mentioned walls weren't straight and needed to compensate with some adhesive. Any how they have bought another 10 bags more and I'm curious if he is doing a proper job or not. Ive taken photos below and the thickness of the adhesive after he finished today is nearly 2.5cm which seems quite thick to me and seems to explain why so many bags were bought.

Can someone with tiling experience pls give some advice?

    Thanks
    H

A rather over thick bed appliled, excessive,, a general rule of thumb is larger the tile, larger the notch trowel used,so a 10mm notch for 10 -12 inch tile etc, a 12mm notch would be used for any tile over 12 inches.

A good linky, this will give you some idea of the correct bed:

There are tile adhesive calculators online, work out using 10mm trowel.

Way to thick. What is the substrate? It looks like tile if this is correct what is underneath?
The max hanging wait on to plastered walls is 22kg m2 that bed depth on to existing will be over. Also what method was used very difficult to get a solid bed at that depth.
Would have been best to strip it all off and dry lined plumb you may then have been somewhere near 6m2 a bag then but 10 bags may have been a bit short
