has anyone bought this sharpening system,it came with some sharpening stones but aren't that good. Unless I'm using it wrong. Could this be because of lapping fluid? Shall I buy better stones? I have heard good things about this system so any advice would be great
I still hate putting edges on chisels, so often look at things like this or Tormek Be interested to find something that takes away that chore
Got a Scheppach TIGER 2000S wet sharpener, puts a lovely edge on the chisels, plane irons, cost me £50 used off Ebay, new one can be found for under a £100 if you search. It just as good as the Tormek, but considerably cheaper, & Tormek jigs will fit it.
Yes, hones the blade to a mirror finish, you use honing paste with it, but I preferto use Veritas Honing Compound, comes in a solid bar, Axminster Tool Centre stock it. Basically same as a barber's strop instead of a strap, it's a wheel. Honing Bar: http://www.veritastools.com/Products/Page.aspx?p=120
If you are referring to this sharpening system. I brought this system, it worked well for a while. After some used the sliding block came wedged in the carriage rendering the bit useless. I have since purchased the Veritas honing system, which make setting up easier.
THe Veritas 5 Piece Deluxe Mk.II Honing Guide Set is 84 quid inc vat. I have their 3 piece kit. So easy to use and making a micro bevel makes so much sense.
Axminster list it as Deluxe. I wish they did a small version of this http://www.axminster.co.uk/veritas-jointer-blade-sharpener got loads of used 82mm planer blades, which I reckon you could resharpen with a jig, use to be one available some years ago.
Tormek all the way for this boy. Love it, great set of jigs and guides for everything from drill bits to planer blades.
Ditto. But instead of using the leather wheel I bought a cheap bench grinder, reversed it and put on a stitched mop wheel like one of these: http://www.axminster.co.uk/heavy-duty-polishing-kit-for-steel-stainless-steel-ferrous-metals Soaped up with Veritas Honing Compound it's much quicker and easier to get a razor sharp edge than the leather wheel.
So simple, got some pigtails, never thought doing that. Want to try some stitched mops, whole assortment available, got some Demin type here, slightly firmer, will try it on a chisel. http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Polishing_Mops.html
