Trim top or bottom of door?

    My task this weekend is to fit our new front door, it is a 4 panel victorian (but new) the width is fine all but a mm or so each side, but in height it is approx 31mm too tall. As the top rail is narrower than the bottom rail my inclination is to take one third off the top and two thirds off the bottom to keep the proportions correct, does this sound reasonable? or is there another rule to apply??

    Yep, pretty much as you've said, just check before you cut that the proportions look right and you're happy to live with it. Don't forget to seal the cut edge under the door too.

    Ahh no, now you'll be expected to do the rest of the house, should have butchered it ensuring she'd never ask you to diy again!! Glad to hear it went well.
