I want replace my mums wall switch which controlls 2 lights in her house, the wiring seems to be the old coloring. Q1 : is Red=Live, Black=Nutral Q2 : I need a wire diagram for the new twin switch Cheers
1. Yes 2. Isolate the lighting circuit at the fuse board, remove light switch screws, pull switch forwards, take photo of the wires as they are now, replace wires in same holes as they are now, ie: com, L1, L2, the photo is in case you forget where the wires go. 3. Don't kill yourself doing it, if in doubt, get a sparky out.
With switches, it is quite usual to find blacks as switched lives, not neutrals. Don't confuse the two. They should be sleeved with a CM or so of red sleeving, but often are not.
