When you say grey heating knob do you mean the on off switch? Or do you have the integral programmer fitted, If you do you will need to replace that entire unit as they are not user serviceable and it will depend upon which control pack you have fitted to your boiler.

The boiler has an on off switch and a knob for controling the water temperature and one for controling the heating emperature. It is the heating temperature knob that has broken.

If you can post a photo please, Im sure that its the programmer section your refering to which is a detachable and replaceable unit, you wont be able to just swap a switch.

Thanks for your he;p with this but I have been able to change the knob. You remove the front cover then drop down the white box containing the mother board. remove the back from that and then ease the mother board from its clips. The broken bit then falls out and you put the mother board back in its clips replace the cover and push the new knob in from the front. Dont forget to turn of the electricity. It is straight forward and does not have anything to do with the gas side of the boiler. Th knobs have to be bought as a pack of 3 for about £15. I hope this might help others.

    Many thanks

You are allowed to replace control knobs and the like on your own appliances, if the manufacturers instructions/documentation permits.

Are you also allowed to remove the casing off your boiler if you're not a GSR Engineer? Only if its a decorative casing.

Your EcoTec Pro is a room sealed appliance with a sponge seal on the reverse of the very casing you removed to get to the control knob and a seal around the aperture in the casing for the control knobs. 99.9% of the time you'll be Ok but how would you know if you've damaged it? You're going to carry out your mandatory Reg 26 9 checks and pull your Kane 455 out of the bag and get analysing aren't you..
