Victorian Pathway Problem

So my Victorian pathway should have been completed over 5 weeks ago!
The job started literally 5 weeks back but it has been stop start due to the tiler only working in dry conditions and above 5c (he has also not attended twice due to an accident on his thumb and a funeral).

Anyhow the main issue which has caused at least 5 days extra work has been down to, according to our tiler, someone stepping on the pathway.
We live in a terraced house and yes there had been a couple of cases where the post man stepped into the pathway and supposedly someone else stepped onto it.

Surely he should be able to board it up or provide a way that no one can accidentally step on the pathway!?
The only entrance to and from the house is via the pathway however once you enter the front part of the path way there is room on the left of the path way to skip the remainder of the pathway until around 2feet from the door.

Any suggestions I can give my tiler on how to protect the pathway while it is being tiled?

    Thanks

The normal thing would be to use some scaffold planks from the gate to the front step. To support the planks you normally use sand bags or small timber beams at 90 degrees to the path raised up on pads so that they don't touch the path.

I would have assumed that any "experienced" tiler who has done path works before would have sorted this out at the start.

Unfortunately you would have thought so!

To add to the above, we have just realised that 2 boxes that are going to be used for the borders of the pathway are all damaged (all chipped , some more than others).

We collected the tiles just over a month ago with the aim that the job was going to start within a few days of collection but due to the weather and the tiler not checking the state of the tiles at the start, we are now in the position of having to spend another £100* to get more tiles.

Do you think the tiles company can replace the boxes or as its over a month I will have to purchase more?

It does seem that your being messed about a bit, five weeks, not good.
Regarding the tiles tho, if you've supplied them its not really up to him to open every box to check for breakages before starting work, tbf.

Here are a few more pics.
Just realised there are 2 tiles in the path that are sticking out by 2-3mm!
He did mentioned some tiles are uneven so naturally not all will be compeltley flush but 2-3mm is allot!

I don't think a Victorian tiler would be happy with the quality of the work, those tiles that are low just shouldn't be, if the tiles are of different thicknesses than the thickest should be the bench mark and thinner ones built up to suit, the line isn't that stright either.:(:(

The 2 things that were not in the tilers favour prior to starting the job was the neighbours wall is not straight and the path is at a gradiant to allow wheelchair access...

Should I get the tiler to stop and lift up all the tiles again or just rectify the uneven tiles?

I have already paid the tiler half (£700) but I am in two minds to cut my losses short and get in an actual professional to finish or redo the job....

You could try ringing the co up, they may replace the damaged tiles, are they 'Orignalstyle'?

But after a month I don't think there will be any luck.

That looks like a very difficult job, next level stuff.

What will happen around the coal shoot?

Can you get another opinion from another tiler, this is more specialist, look at Victorian tiling specialist, there are a few co's in London.
