Vista to 7 or 10

  1. Ach, tried both - to no avail.

The copy from the old pooter as shown in #157 seemed to go ok - it asked for product code (which I had and which I confirmed using Jelly Bean), but it wouldn't accept it.

Tried the downloaded version, but all it would try and do is make me 'burn' it again - even tho' I already had it on a disc. Downloaded a fresh copy from t'net straight on to his machine, and - ditto - "BURN IT!"

Gave up - and stuck Office 2010 on there instead...

I expect to be back in 180 days to reactivate it... Cough.

    (Walks away whistling...)

Anyhoo, it really is all running superbly, and the guy couldn't be more pleased. It is nicely fast - Word fires up in a couple of seconds.

With the huge move towards Tablets, PCs don't hold their value well at all. £88 all in for a very decent interwebbing and office machine with a crisp 22" screen.

Did just burn it, or did you burn it as a 'Bootable Disc', which is required?

    Mr. HandyAndy - Really

  9. Yup - you got it! :)

Been looking at possibly getting Win 7 for his old PC before selling it on - codes are apparently available for around a £enner from scrapped ex-office machines - so was looking at downloading a Win& ISO. Then I actually read the instructions about how to install ISO files... :(

Yeah - it needs this wee bit of software and that and then do this and then that and...

  11. Yeah, but that's hard to do for someone who knows everything...
