What is this ?

    Anybody tell me what this is, Looks like someone has covered it in sealer, I have looked on google but nothing there I can find.

    Not seen this before either.

    Because its an 'S' type trap I suspect a drain rodding point>

  3. That's a very serious fungal growth.

    Cut it off neatly and carefully, fry in a dab of butter and a clove of gar....

    Think i found it on google, but not sure,? It could be a vented pan but prev owner has sealed it off with filler ?

    Yes its a vent to avoid syphoning. The tube seems to be a vertical soil pipe so the weight of the water as it is flowing in the soil pipe would also suck the water in the toilets U bend out allowing nasty poo gases to gas into the room.

    Does your loo loose its normal level of water on the bowls U bend at times?
    Sealing of this vent would be the cause for this

    It's an old type to allow separate soil and vent pipe system

    Looks like a Drain expert will have to come out as look down inspection pit and it is clear but 8ft deep so health and safety can not go down cos possible gases.

    when you flush d/stairs wc , does the water level in the pan rise up then slowly go back to normal?

    if that's problem, its blocked somewhere?

    try using a plunger when the water is at the high level.
