I've bought a katsu 101748 router that has a 3/8 & 1/4" chuck diameter but as I know nothing about a router could someone tell me what size router bit I will need so I can fit door hinges and repair the edges of a door frame.

Get something like this and have a play, I'm sure there are tutorials on utube.

I have the same router and have a 14/15mm bit in it.

Used it for hinges to removed most of waste then finished off by hand.

If you have a lot could make a jig?

Make sure of the actual collet sizes - are you 100% certain that it is a 1/4" ? What is on the box? and on each collet pack

That same router seems to be supplied with 8mm and 6mm collets according to some suppliers and use of a 1/4 bit in a 6mm collet or the the other way round can be dangerous.

For example: https://www.aimtools.uk/products/13-14 It says 1/4 & 3/8 in the text but looking at the images shows a box which specifies 6mm.

One of the collets was in the router and there is nothing on the other collet to say what size it is. On the box it says chuck diameter 3/8 & 1/4" and on the user manual it says collet chuck capacity 1/4" , 3/8".

I've just checked the router and it's showing chuck diameter 3/8 & 1/4"

Fine ... The pictures provided by the seller tell a different story. All I am saying is make sure you use the right size bit.

I thought I would try some drill bits and here are the results.

    Largest collet
3/8 HSS drill bit fits nice and tight.

    Smallest collet.
6mm (1/4" shank) wood countersink is to small but holds when tightened up.
Dormer 1/4" HS drill bit is slightly loose but it should be fine.
6.4 HSS bit fits nice and tight http://amtechdiy.com/product/F0910-saw-and-drill-bit/

so it's 1/4". DO NOT use 6mm bits. They might feel tight, but they will be gripped just at one end of the collet and will almost certainly come loose. You really don't want router bits coming loose at many 1,000's rpm. 1/4" is 6.35mm
