If I was asked for 20p and he was dressed in a Ralph Lauren three piece suit with matching tie and shoes I'd probably look at him cock-eyed, but if he was sitting at the side of the pavement with a sad looking dog, dressed in rags asking, then I'd offer to buy him the sandwich and wait for the predictable 'i just want the money, man', and then walk away feeling disappointed with human nature and that I almost let myself be suckered, again.
