My integrated washing machine door hinge holes (B&Q Cooke & Lewis) don't match my integrated washing machine hinge mounts (Hotpoint). If nothing is standardised, why do manufacturers bother pre-drilling any holes in the door anyway - wouldn't it be better to supply doors blank ?
Yep, annoying, eh? I've replaced two int washing machines for my in-laws, and had to cut small discs of MDF to fill the ol' hinges holes the first time, before drilling new ones (I think one hinge lined up, but t'other was way off. On the second machine, I had to drill out the hole I'd filled previously... So at least two different hinge patterns. Possibly only two? But what are the chances of you getting the right fitting when you replace your machine...? (Ok, I know I know - it'd be 50:50. Sheesh - I'm chust making a point )
Most annoying. Some places supply integrated doors un-drilled which helps. You can get hold of the 35mm knock in blanks online, helps loads when the new hole cuts through the old one.
Yup I've had the same problem once on my own machine and once for the mother-in-law Didn't realise you can buy blank discs online, made my own as DA mentions above Your also gonna need a Forstner bit to cut your new holes (apologies if you know this already) http://www.screwfix.com/p/forstner-bit-set-5-pieces/17412 Other suppliers sell the bits individually if you only want to buy the size you need for a one off job
And depending on the door hinges, the holes can be 26mm, 35mm or 40mm diameter. Shame our hosts offer a set of the three sizes usually used.
