Decided - since it was late and kiddies should have gorn to bed - to sneak my upgrade to W10 back on t'pooter. Caught in the act by my son, but I managed to persuade him that I'd checked on-line and the old Java versions of Minecraft will work perfectly fine... Anyways, all went well. Except for one thing. I cannot see anything on my 'classic' start-up. When I click on the 'start' icon, up pops what should be the start menu along with the new '10' tiles to its right. But, there's nothing in the normal 'list' part down the LH side. There's just my username at the very top, but nothing under it until at the very bottom is 'Power' and 'All apps'. What's worse is that there is no way to log off! There is a 'power' icon at the bottom, but that only gives the options 'Sleep', 'Shutdown' and 'Restart'. What the bludy hell? Now, what really peeves me is that this is the most basic of issues, but darned if anything comes up to help me sort this minor task out using either the 'search' facility or even on-line. AAAAAAAAAAARRRGGGHH!!!
Ooh - that's promising, thanks Mr Ha. A whole list of stuff comes up ranging from 'Programs & Features' at the top to 'Desktop' at t'bottom. I can't find any way to customise the start menu tho'
Nope - no 'properties' when right-clicking on the 'start' icon. I've gorn through that article, KIAB, and now have a 'Most Used' heading at the top with 'Paint' the only prog listed under it (which I haven't used in ages). Despite firing up Firefox repeatedly, it ain't adding to that list. ***!
Yes. This ain't an issue with Firefox, it's to do with how I've inadvertently set up Win 10 so's I've fluffed the start menu system. It doesn't matter which programme I fire up - CCleaner, Word, FF, whatevs, it doesn't get added to the 'Most Used' list in the start menu. Bludy annoying.
That's technology and microsoft 'improvements' for ya. W7 was (is) 'recently used'. Much better. Perhaps there's a setting to adjust what 'most used' amounts to? Mr. HandyAndy - Really
Is it the XP style start menu you're trying to achieve? On win8 I use 'Classic Shell' and disable all the fancy shmancy bollards. I wish they'd just bring back XP and be done with it.
Hi Para. Yes, it's the Win 7 'style' I'm after - and Win 10 has that. 'Cept I can't find it. I've upgraded from Win 8.1 and for that I did download Classic Shell. But darned if I'm gonna add a third-party bit of software when '10' has this feature. Anyways, I quite like having the two side by side, the Win 7 'list' with a few useful tiles to the right - instant glance at t'weather, for instance. But why on earth is it soooo hard to find out how to do it?! AAAAaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaarrrgghh.
Some peeps are never happy,Windows 10 start menu is far better the the Windows 7 version. Classic Shell, a fee addon will give you the Windows 7 look. Also Start 10 is another one. http://blog.laptopmag.com/make-windows-10-like-windows-7 http://www.stardock.com/products/start10/
Thanks. But Win 10 HAS all this - they have added it due to the moans from peeps. I really don't want to add a 3rd-party item when I simply shouldn't need to. HEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeelllppp...
Well I can't find it, even googled & I still haven't found it. I thought it was only available as a add-on.
