Hi I need to install a wireless security alarm in our new rental property. If I had a choice I would used a wired installation. Do any members have recommedations for systems. I looked at one on eBay/Amazon and the batteries in the sensors only last about a month. A lot of systems just seem Chinese imports. Thanks for reading.
Whilst I cant throw money away, I think it would be false economy to for a cheap alarm especially a wireless one. I will be ringing the compaines tommorrow to confirm the spec and then ordering a system, thanks for your good advice. Does anyone have experience of the ones on eBay?
Which alarm were you looking at on eBay? To be honest, you'd be better off with a Texecom, Honeywell etc. I believe you need to be trade to purchase Risco alarm systems? If you want something with Smart phone control then consider Response Electronics alarms: http://www.responseelectronics.com/ Their siren boxes are also wireless so, minimal wiring unlike some of the other brands.
I've got a Response electronics (owned by Honeywell) system in my house running 4 PIRs and 8 Mag sensors. Never had any issues with it. All the sensors and PIRs go off when they should, battery life is about 1 - 2 years per sensor. No false alarms and no inteference. I have my Control panel tucked away under the stairs and use the remote fobs to activate the alarm. I have mag sensors installed in the garage and the outside shed and both work fine. House is a new build house so although only has partition walls they're crammed with lovely foil backed insulation, perfect for killing that wifi signal but still no issues. Siren box is as Teki says wireless as well, powered by a battery which is charged via solar panel on top of the box. In my 3 years of owning the system the siren box has never discharged to a state where it doesn't sound, even in the winter. All devices have anti tamper should someone try to remove them or the batteries. Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask
I bought the Texecom, based on the advice given here, should arrive next week, may be back for more advice if I get problems.
I went for the Premier Elite 24W. Just bought a kit. Going to be sharp learning curve, not done wireless alarms before. Don't get access to the premises till Thursday this week.
Hello Kathekas, hope all goes well with the install. Previously I've only tackled "hard wired" systems but must admit I am tempted to try a wireless one next. Please post back how the installation goes with the Texecom.
As a 'professional' installer of alarms a few years ago, one did a 'survey' of the property to be secured, this involved testing of signal strengths etc using the correct diagnostic equipment, to ensure correct and accurate operation of devices in their proposed final locations. This was all well and good until an extra wall was built, or a 10ft American type fridge was installed, unfortunately things like that can have an effect on signal strengths etc. The beauty of Tex Ricochet is that it uses mesh technology, ie all the devices act as transmitters and receivers, this means that there are multiple paths for signals to go to negate many if not all problems, and obviously range of transmission is far superior as each device can in effect talk to the other in a line, that line can be much longer than traditional transmitter/receiver based systems which have a maximum accurate range between each. Btw I have no affiliation to Tex, other than using/installing their kit. Rich.
Yes it will definitely help..I do want extremely good security system and your views do sound very nice to me..
