Morning lads. On a small job yesterday where I removed a wall light. When I pulled out the cable i found it was yellow. It's solid core, 1.5mm and 1mm CPC. Here's a picture: My question is, why is it yellow? Is it a special type of cable or just an identification colour. The light it was powering was 240v if that has any importance.
Never seen it in 50 years....I suspect it has absorbed some chemical from somewhere. Be interesting to find out. It's not just flattened artic is it ? Rs
[ If it was flex i'd have said it was gold coloured as used for brass chandeliers etc. but it's definitely t/e isn't it.
Artic isn't solid core, & doesn't have a bare CPC. Also cable looks a uniform colour, wouldn't have thought a chemical would do that, most likely wrong, & it's harmonised colours, so fairly recent, from 2004 onwards.
It is possible to get T&E in any colour sheath ... normally on special order though. Possibly ordered for a specific job and the remainder being used up?
Here you go: http://caledonian-cables.co.uk/products/fireproof/flame_retardant_cable/twin-earth-cable.shtml COLOUR CODE Insulation Colour: Twin: brown and blue, alternatively, for 2 x 1.0 and 2 x 1.5 cables, brown and brown; 3-core: brown, black (centre core), and grey Sheath Colour: Grey, other colours can be offered upon request.
I knew it was unusual! The cable is defiantly dyed yellow, the yellow goes the whole way though the sheath. It's flat and the inner cores are identical to typical T&E. It was run in buried galvanised conduit, rather 'industrial' for a domestic wall light. My first guess was it was designed for 110v, but I can only find round artic flex online.
Must admit learnt something there RS - no joke. I do like Haddock, and next time will try the natural smoked as have never had that before. Thanks RS to you, and your good lady wife.
Make sure you get undyed smoked haddock,& it's traditionally natural smoked oak, some add beech as well, oak smoked haddock has a wonderful flavour, far better than the usual chemical smoked haddock.
My good lady is well versed ... in many skills.... both domestic and 'oriental'.(page 65 if you must know...lol) Always happy to help. Rs
