Halfords 3 year battery

  1. So the point is, is the battery flat because of no charge, not because of a faulty battery?

Different story if your alternator is not charging enough.

Might be a perfectly good battery, not getting charged properly!

If this was a replacement for another battery, you don't get 3 years from the replacement date just what's left from the original date.

  4. Im not saying it shouldnt last more than 3 years.

But the fact, whether its liked or not, is that the guarantee is only valid for 3 years from the date of purchase.

Any extended guarantee given is additional good will and not automatic.

If you have proof of the original purchase return it. But be sure it is a battery fault first?

    Ok fair enough Phil!

Guess the moral of the story is not to buy a Halfords battery. 2 years is very poor.

Kiab it could be the alternator he tested the battery so presuming its that atm. I'll try my luck again lol

Depends. Sale of goods act says it should realistically perform, regardless of guarantee dates.
And manufacturer guarantee is more binding than retailers' sale (or replacement) date.

How do you know that the light will show up if the battery is no longer able to hold a charge aswell as the alternator not charging.

In the old days it would have suggested that or even a loose belt allowing the pulley to slip, or a bad connection on the back of the alternator, of on the battery itself, many reasons why.
But halfords themself have saidthe battery is not putting out the right amount of amps.

Could be your alternator, get it tested, could also be belt for alternator slipping.

Usually dim headlights, difficult starting, is signs of charging problems.

So not enough to turn the engine and run the electric fuel pump all at once.

No I haven't had the alt tested I'll check that Moro thanks.

    Thankyou all for replies

  16. Was it flat when they tested it, or charged?

The figures mean nothing on their own

Find a decent place that does auto electrics & get it tested.

Probably orginal alternator, so highly likely it's on it's last legs.

  18. Because the light is a direct link to the alternator. Its nothing to do with the battery. Hence the light only appears when ignition is live and no charge
